Historic Everett Margaret Riddle Historic Preservation Scholarship

Historic Everett is seeking Snohomish County individuals who plan a career in historical architecture, historic preservation, or a broader field of history. Eligible fields of study include History, Architecture, American Studies, Urban Planning, and Museum Studies, with an emphasis on Historic Preservation. Also, qualifying is certified programs in the preservation trades, such as carpentry and masonry.

The grant amount will be up to $1,000 and may also offer the chance to intern with Historic Everett for three months following the year of study.

Eligibility

*High school students in Snohomish County in their final year of high school intending to enroll in an eligible field of study

*Adult students (18 years and over) in Snohomish County enrolled in or intending to enroll in an eligible field of study

*Students from Snohomish County in their final year of undergraduate study intending to enroll in a graduate program in an eligible field of study

*Students from Snohomish County who intend to pursue a preservation trade-in a certified program

Complete our online application and include:

· Two letters of recommendation.

· Academic transcripts from highest grade completed.

· Copy of a letter of acceptance to a college, university, or trade school.

· A letter telling us about your interest in historic preservation.

The mission of Historic Everett is to encourage preservation and rehabilitation and to advocate for and educate our community about the heritage of the city of Everett, Washington. This important and valuable heritage and character include historic buildings, architectural artifacts, landscapes, and other cultural items.

Historic Everett was formed in 2002 and is a nonprofit 501 c3.

Margaret Riddle retired in 2008 after more than 30 years as Historian at the Everett Public Library. In the 1970s, Margaret helped create the first surveys of Everett’s historical properties and served as staff for the first Everett Historical Commission. She received the Commission’s William F. Brown Award in 2009 for her work in local history. In 2009, she was also honored with Washington State Historical Society’s Robert Gray Medal for her long career. Since 2007, she has been a Staff Historian with HistoryLink.org, the Online Encyclopedia of Washington State History.
